Dev blog: building a living online mafia world

New features are visible, but much of game development is really about balance, reliability and connection.

Dev blog: building a living online mafia world

A living online mafia world is never truly finished. Players discover strategies, the economy shifts and small technical choices can have surprising influence. Development therefore requires listening, measuring and deliberate improvement.

From report to root cause

"This button does nothing" might be an interface error, a session issue, a cooldown or a security rule. We first reconstruct the complete path: what the player did, which code ran and what state remained afterwards.

Features must fit together

A new business or crime never exists in isolation. It affects income, ranking pace, families and possibly the value of existing assets. For each expansion we ask not only whether the button works, but what the feature does to the rest of the season.

  • Feedback reveals problems that telemetry cannot explain alone.
  • Automated tests protect important game rules.
  • Logging makes incidents traceable.
  • Smaller releases reduce the risk of each change.

Developing in the open

These dev blogs make our design choices easier to understand. Not every technical decision is exciting, yet together they determine whether actions feel fair and progress remains reliable. We will share updates about balance, technology, new systems and lessons from the community.

If something could be better, use the in-game feedback options. Concrete examples help us move from symptom to solution much faster.
